Helen Doris (Newhouse) McCord Cherry, 89, of Union City died Sept. 11, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Reid officiating. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 this evening.
Pallbearers will be Mack Sugg, Steve Sugg, Greg McCord, Jeff McCord, Al Molina and Jeff Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Tiffany Thompson, Brett White, Benjamin White, Ellis Critchlow, Sam Critchlow, Danny Leggett, Ed Griffin, Skipper White, Scott Critchlow, Richard Davidson and Hugh Wade.
The family requests that memorials be made to American Cancer Society.
She was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Kentucky, daughter of the late Ernest and Novie (Brewington) Newhouse. She married H. Irby McCord Dec. 6, 1939. He died July 30, 1961. She then married Malcolm Cherry in January 1966. He died in May 1973. She was a retired employee of the former Brown Shoe Co. in Union City, where she worked for 30 years, and was a member of Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorris Sugg of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Linda McCord of New Smyrna, Fla.; her stepdaughter, Patsy Roney of Union City; her stepson and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jean Cherry of Union City; her step-daughter-in-law, Pat Cherry of Union City; her step-son-in-law, Paul Neil of Savannah; five grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Delores Neil; her stepson, Bob Cherry; and two brothers, J.W. Newhouse and Leonard Newhouse.
