Elsie Mae Prater Posted: Monday, September 13, 2010 3:01 pm The Messenger, September 13, 2010 Elsie Mae Prater, 92, of Newbern died Sept. 10, 2010, at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Home. She was the mother of Brenda Austin of Troy. Services were Saturday at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern, with burial following in Hornbeak’s Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brady Fisher, Cory Murray, Patrick Forgy, Jeff Sisk, Austin Forgy, Cody Austin, Brian Austin and Lance Prater. Honorary pallbearers were Brady Austin, Clifton “Ted” Pierce, Ronnie Scott Prater and Michael Prater. Johnny Michael officiated. The family requests that memorials be made to RoEllen Baptist Church, 5368 Highway 104 East, Dyersburg, TN 38024. She was born July 20, 1918, in Tatumville, daughter of the late Dock and Dellar (Rogers) Weaver. She was the widow of Jodie Prater, whom she married Nov. 26, 1939. She was a member of RoEllen Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include another daughter and two sons-in-law, Gloria and Johnny Mitchell of Newbern and Edward Austin of Troy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Betty Prater of Newbern and Dennis and Margaret Prater of Trimble; her sister, Dorothy Cagle o f Dyersburg; and nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sons, J.D. Prater and Joseph Prater; and four sisters, Sue Clark, Louise French, Mildred Davis and Jean Gatlin.
