WCP 9.9.10 The 2010 Soybean Idol winner was chosen on Tuesday, Sept. 7 after the finalists performance at the downtown stage after the Soybean Festival parade.
After all the finalists had taken their turn in the spotlight, Jeremy R. Smith, of Fulton, Ky., was chosen as the 2010 Soybean Idol.
Smith, the son of Phillip and Teresa Smith, was born in Union City and raised in Fulton, Ky.
He graduated from Fulton City High School in 2003 and moved to Martin. He works as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Van’s Institutional Pharmacy.
“Born the son of a preacher, I have been singing gospel music at church and with my family since I was a child. My goal for the future is to spread the gospel through song to a world that needs hope. I am blessed to have been awarded this opportunity,” said Smith.
The 2010 Soybean Idol runner-up is Kevin Runions of Martin.
“The 2010 Soybean Idol has been an excellent community event that brought our neighboring counties together with local talent, friends and neighbors. This was a highly successful event that has grown this year,” said Lorrie Jackson, 2010 Soybean Idol contest coordinator.
Smith received $1,000 and the opportunity to perform as an opening act for John Michael Montgomery on the downtown stage on Saturday, Sept. 11.
