Hillcrest’s Bryce Warner did a little bit of everything on Thursday evening. Altogether, the Cougar running back totaled 203 all-purpose yards, accounting for all of his team’s points during a 20-14 overtime victory over Ridgemont. Warner finished with a rushing, receiving and kick return touchdown. Meanwhile, South Fulton claimed a 30-0 victory over Black Oak.
The Red Devils are now on a collision course with H’crest in a rematch from last season’s Rebel Bowl next Thursday evening.
The following is a roundup of Thursday’s middle school football action as reported to The Messenger by area coaches.
H’crest 20, R’mont 14 OT
Warner made a 10-yard trip to the endzone for the winning score after the H’crest defense held Ridgemont on their overtime offensive attempt. Additionally, Warner returned a kickoff 98 yards to paydirt and brought down a 27-yard aerial score from Cain Aaron.
Defensively, Warner had 10 tackles. Hunter Brady finished with a team-best 16 stops, while Austin Harris was in on five takedowns. Ridgemont had Roberto Vasquez and Cameron Chessor with one touchdown each, while Jake Sisk added a two-point conversion. On defense, Mason Parker had two sacks for Ridgemont, while Zach Parker had two takedowns and a sack.
The Mustangs play at Greenfield next Thursday.
SF 30, Black Oak 0
Cory Pinion totaled three touchdown — two of the rushing variety and one on a fumble recovery — as the Red Devils coasted to Thursday’s win. SF led 8-0 after one quarter, 16-0 at halftime and 30-0 with three quarters complete. Hunter Wade, who finished with 102 yards on five carries, also sprinted 84 yards for a Red Devil score.
Additionally, Anthony Cox took in a pair of two-point conversions, while Wade carried in one deuce. Defensively, Wade led the way for South Fulton (2-1) with seven stops and an interception, while Dalton Long had six tackles. Skylar Grissom also stood out for SF with five takedowns. Black Oak, which did not report statistics, returns to action next Thursday at home against Lake Road.
