| Jennifer Bodkins Braden of Ripley, daughter of Johnny and Donna Bodkins of Greenfield has received the AMVETS (American Veterans) 2010 Past National Commander, John S. Lorec National Guard Volunteer of the Year Award. Each year nominations are received from State Family Program Directors or the Wing Family Program Coordinators. AMVETS selects the year’s most noteworthy volunteer from nominations of the 50 states and US territories. The award was presented at the 2010 National Guard Family Programs Convention in New Orleans. Braden started her work with the National Guard in 2005 as a Family Readiness Group volunteer for the Detachment 1 1175th HET unit in Brownsville, and since that time has taken on the roles of Family Readiness Group Co-Leader, Regional Volunteer Coordinator Alternate and currently Regional Volunteer Coordinator. As Regional Coordinator for region 9 she helps train and mentor Family Readiness Groups for 14 National Guard units in West Tennessee. Each year’s recipient receives a plaque and a cash award of $1,000 that goes to the recipient’s family programs unit to enhance support of the families of those deployed. WCP 9.09.10 | | | |
