COMMUNITY EVENTS — The towns of Hornbeak and Troy were busy on Saturday as both hosted community events this Labor Day weekend. The annual Troy Pecan Festival, which was held at City Park on the square, included free white beans and cornbread and a display of old cars and tractors, one of which was admired by (above, from left) Thomas Richards of Union City, Ray Haney of Martin and Bob Carnie of Huntingdon. Retired University of Tennessee Family and Community Education agent Sue Alexander of Huntingdon, who returns to Obion County each year to teach a workshop for the local clubs, was on hand in Hornbeak Saturday to demonstrate her basket-weaving talent. The two events will be the subject of Wednesday’s Friends and Neighbors.
