An all-terrain vehicle reported stolen from a local man’s property was found on fire Saturday on East Mercer Street in Union City.
David Thorpe told police he awoke about 4:45 a.m. Saturday and heard what sounded like his tilt trailer dumped as if someone was unloading something at his residence at 1218 Bethlehem Road in Union City, according to a Union City Police Department report.
He said he looked out his window and observed someone driving his brother’s, Jim Thorpe’s, Polaris Ranger all-terrain vehicle down Bethlehem Road. The vehicle then turned onto Nailling Drive toward Union City.
Thorpe told police he had his brother’s Ranger on a trailer hooked to his truck, parked in his driveway, and indicated they were going dove hunting early in the morning.
Police reported the Polaris Ranger was found on fire behind a residence in the 800 block of East Mercer Street. The Union City Fire Department extinguished it.
The vehicle was a total loss, with only the frame and wheels remaining, according to the report.
Police reported the ATV was valued at $10,000.
