Martin woman injured in crash
A Martin woman has suffered severe injuries after she was hit Tuesday afternoon in Martin.
According to an accident report, 46-year-old Maureen Sledd of Martin was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to Jackson after her Volkswagon was hit by a GMC truck driven by 18-year-old Kyle Weathford of Martin.
Apparently, Weathford ran the red light at the intersection of Hawks Road and Skyhawk Parkway striking Sledd’s vehicle which was traveling on Hawks Road attempting to turn left onto Skyhawk Parkway, according to the report.
The report notes that Sledd was unresponsive when emergency officials arrived on the scene and she had an “evident severe injury.”
She was transported to Volunteer Community Hospital, where she was airlifted by Air Evac Lifeteam to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Sledd remained in critical condition after her spleen was surgically removed in Jackson on Wednesday, according to reports from friends.
Sledd is a Weakley County educator.
Weathford was cited for failure to yield right of way. According to the accident report, Weathford claimed he could not remember any events pertaining to the crash. Both Sledd and Weathford were wearing their seat belts.
