WCP 8.31.10 Our activity room turned into a tropical oasis on Friday. The residents were ready for our Cabana day.
The room was filled with flamingo lanterns and fish cascades in bright colors. Hawaiian music played overhead, and each resident was greeted with a colorful flower lei.
Of course, you can’t have a cabana party without great food. We served Hawaiian pizza, ham salad sandwiches on Hawaiian bread, spinach dip with chips, cupcakes with flamingo toppers swimming on blue icing and lemonade.
Twenty-four residents have beautiful beaded necklaces featuring turtles, flamingos and palm trees. They painted fuzzy fish on Wednesday. They had a beautiful aquarium when they finished. Our game was the Flamingo Launch. Obra Sims managed to ring the most flamingos, and Lois Morris finished in second. It was a wonderful theme, and everyone had a great time!
The Cover Card winners were Mary Doster, Thyra Provine, Frankie Galfano, John Wooten, Frances Williams and Novella Dame. For Thursday’s one-line Bingo, the residents received a special treat for the prize.
The ladies of the Gleason First Baptist Church’s WMU group brought bags of cookies. Thank you for your generous donation of time and snacks.
We enjoyed a morning social this week with iced raisin bread and coffee. The residents were thrilled to snack on fresh popcorn during an Elvis movie on Wednesday.
This week’s sports competitions were a lot of fun. This week’s main winner was Obra Sims, who took first in Hole in One and the Hula Hoop Toss. The runner-up for Hole in One was Thyra Provine, and Sue Bailey finished second at the Hula Hoop Toss.
Bro. Tom Spellings was with us on Tuesday afternoon. He is the preacher of Gleason’s First United Methodist Church and always does a wonderful job with scripture and song. Liberty Church of Christ and Dresden First Baptist Church provided our Sunday morning services. Adams Chapel Baptist Church conducted our Sunday afternoon service.
The residents want to send a special thank you to Sandra Klutts. She has been brightening our facility with beautiful floral arrangements for them to enjoy.
