Central soccer gals
get taste of defeat
The Obion Central girls’ soccer team tasted defeat for the first time this season on Tuesday at Dyersburg.
The Lady Rebels, who were in a 1-all tie with D’burg through thirty minutes in the first half, fell 7-1.
The Lady Trojans struck for three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half to take a 4-1 advantage.
Paige Hicks scored the only goal for Obion Central (1-1-1). Her scoring kick came on a breakaway run down the right side of the field.
OC goalkeeper Taylor Baker made over 15 saves during the defeat.
The Lady Rebels’ Thursday game against Covington has been postponed. OC returns to the field next Tuesday at home against Crockett County.
Lake Road softball
blanks Martin at OC
Lake Road’s Middle School softball team improved to 4-1 on the current campaign after its 3-0 blanking of Martin on Tuesday afternoon.
Winning pitcher Paige Russell — who already has a perfect game to her credit this season — spun a two-hitter with five strikeouts and just one walk.
Offensively, Hannah Cavness tripled and singled for the Lady Generals, while Kaitlyn Howard smacked a double and drove in a pair of tallies.
LR returns to the diamond next Thursday at Ridgemont.
UC runner Williamson
medals at Trenton meet
The Union City cross country team competed in a meet at Trenton on Tuesday.
UC’s Daniel Williamson medaled with a 15th-place finish and a time of 19:41.
Only the top 15 runners medaled.
On the girls’ side, Sadie Hollis was the leading Lady Twister in 26th with time of 28:00.
Others competing for Union City were Christian Cousar on the boys’ side and the tandem of Claire Jackson and Taylor Hargrove in the girls’ race.
The Twister cross country runners return to action next Tuesday at Crockett County.
