Evelyn S. Pounds, 83, a resident of Martin Healthcare and formerly of Water Valley, Ky., died Aug. 30, 2010, at 6:50 a.m. at  Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Jackson Funeral Home in Dukedom with the Revs. Gayle Barnes and Gerald Barnes officiating. Interment will follow there in Good Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday.
She was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Ashland, Ky., daughter of the late Clay and Daisy Mary (Davidson) Sheffield. She was married to Charles William “Billy” Pounds for 47 years. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Wingo, Ky., and had been an employee of Volunteer Community Hospital for 18 years, working in the cafeteria. She had lived in this area most of her life.
 She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Donna Pounds of Houston and Dean and Carol Pounds of South Fulton; four grandchildren, Kenneth W. Pounds, Tracy Pounds and Shelly Pounds, all of Houston, and Brandi Shempert of South Fulton; four great-grandchildren, Daniel J. Pounds, Gavin Pounds, Kailey Shempert and Miranda Pounds; her brother, Ray Sheffield of Ashland; her sister-in-law, Wyonna Pruitt Brown of South Fulton; and several nieces and nephews, including Betty Mikel of South Fulton and Linda (Bushart) Hall of Louisville, Ky.
 She was also preceded in death by two brothers and her sister.
