A South Fulton driver and his passenger were injured overnight when their vehicle ran off U.S. Highway 45 South in Graves County, Ky., while the driver was trying to avoid a deer.
George Garmon III, 19, and his passenger, Mahri Welliever, 21, both of South Fulton, sustained injuries in a crash that occurred about 12:23 a.m. today on U.S. Highway 45 South at Wray Road, according to a Kentucky State Police press release.
The KSP reported Garmon was southbound on U.S. Highway 45 South when a deer entered the path of his 1995 Toyota Avalon. He attempted to avoid striking the deer and apparently overcorrected, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and come to final rest in a ditch.
Garmon and Ms. Welliever, who were reported to be wearing seat belts, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, Ky., with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the KSP.
The KSP was assisted at the scene by the Graves County Sheriff’s Department, Wingo (Ky.) Fire Department and Mayfield-Graves County Ambulance Service. The accident remains under investigation by the KSP.
