at top of local match
The Obion Central and South Fulton golf teams swept the top spots on Thursday.
The Red Devils claimed a first-place finish with a 161 in a four-team boys’ match against OC, Gibson County and Westview at Wynridge Greens in Troy. The Rebel boys tied with GC for second with a 174.
Meanwhile, the OC girls defeated South Fulton 106-116 in head-to-head action.
In boys’ play, Red Devil Chase Mayfield tied with Westview’s Austin Smith for medalist honors. Both golfers fired 36s.
Otherwise, SF’s Hunter Hutchins totaled a 39, J.B. Graves shot a 42 and Hunter Faulkner finished with a 33.
Obion Central’s low score came from Garrett Booth (42). Trevor Riley and Cameron Green each fired a 43 for the Rebels, while Ryan Middlebrook added a 46.
South Fulton’s McKenze Pane shared girls’ medalist honors — at 48 on the day — with OC’s Ashlyn Runions.
Samantha Wallace carded a 58 to round out scoring for the Lady Rebels, while Ashley Brooks offered a 68 for SF.
The Obion Central golf teams return to the links on Monday against Union City at Poplar Meadows. SF travels to Persimmon Hills Golf Course in Sharon for a four-way match the same afternoon.
Bivens double trouble
in Devilettes’ victory
Aalia Bivens drove in five runs and doubled twice as South Fulton shellacked Lake County 10-0 in five innings on Thursday in middle school softball action.
Winning pitcher Moranda Johns, Brooke Parnell and Maddie Kate Coffey all added two hits for the Devilettes (4-0).
Additionally, Melanie Johnson, Sierra Coley, Kristin Crocker and Sydney Easterwood each had one safety for SF.
South Fulton returns to the diamond on Monday at Ridgemont.

The team of Danny Booker, Shawn Lehman, Shane Thurman, Corey Bruner and Matt Squires combined to shoot a 9-under-par and win the weekly men’s scramble at Wynridge Greens in Troy Thursday.
A group comprised of Terry Wiseman, Frank Canale, Tom Cleveland, Ray Swift and J.D. Stephens took second place with a cumulative total of 8-under.

Hickman lady victors
finish a 4-under-par
The team of Wanda Bell, Joyce Bell, Liz Roberts and Evelyn Whitten finished in first place with a score of 4-under-par to win the Hickman Country Club’s Ladies League outing on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the combination of Dino Nerren, Linda Moore, Kathy Barker and Jackie Russell tied with the team of Carole Lattus, Beverly Yates, Cathy Hall and Charlotte Hall — both foursomes coming to the clubhouse at 1-under.
Brown was the closest to the pin on hole No. 8.
