WCP 8-26-10 A local woman is the author and illustrator of her first children’s book, “What’s That Noise, Momma?”
Greenfield resident Dawn D. Gearin, says her three-year-old granddaughter, Anna Grace Abernathy, inspired her to write the book by her perpetual questions about different noises.
“With encouragement from my family, I decided to publish the book for her and for myself,” Gearin said.
A Weakley County educator for the past 30 years, Gearin taught English at Dresden High School for 27 years. Three years ago, she began teaching full-time at the Center for Adult and Continuing Education in Dresden.
Dawn and her husband, Ricky Gearin, have two children – Matthew Gearin and Whitney (Gearin) Abernathy. Whitney and her husband Sahun’s daughter, Anna, is the child pictured on the cover of book.
According to Whitney, her mother has helped many people with various papers and poems over the years.
“Family members have pushed and inspired her for many years to write a book,” Whitney said.
Gearin received the first copy of her book, “What’s That Noise, Momma?” last week.
Those interested in learning more about the book, or wish to purchase a copy, may go online at amazon.com or publishamerica.com.
