Greenfield man accused of aggravated statutory rape
WCP 8.26.10 A 55-year-old Greenfield man was placed into the custody of the Weakley County Detention Center for accusations of having sexual contact with a teenager on more than one occasion.
According to a press release issued by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, Manuel Jesus Kane, who lived outside of Greenfield, was arrested Aug. 20 on charges of aggravated statutory rape and sexual battery.
The release cites that a joint investigation by the WCSD and state department of children’s services allegedly revealed Kane had contact with a 14-year-old female in September 2008 and again with the same teenager when she was 15 years old in July 2009.
Kane was 54 years old during the time of the most recent alleged incidents.
Under state law, the statutory rape charge becomes an aggravated statutory rape charge when the perpetrator is at least 10 years older than the victim.
Kane was arraigned in Weakley County General Sessions Court on Wednesday.
According to Weakley County General Sessions Court Judge Tommy Moore, Kane’s bond was reduced during a court appearance held Wednesday afternoon due to the time lapse between the incident and Kane’s arrest.
The case was continued until Sept. 8. Kane was ordered on restraint from being in Weakley County pending the outcome.
