South Fulton’s second wind stopped Fulton City in its tracks on Thursday.
South Fulton’s Hunter Wade tackles Fulton City quarterback Damian Roach for a safety
The Red Devils rallied for 24 unanswered points — after holding just a 22-20 advantage with four minutes remaining in the first half — to procure a 46-20 triumph.
Hunter Wade was especially impressive for the Redmen, totaling 113 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries.
Wade, who took in a two-point conversion, also came up big on defense with a sack of Bulldog quarterback Damian Roach for a safety just prior to intermission.
In other junior high football action on Thursday, Ridgemont edged Lake Road 12-8, Hillcrest walloped Fulton County 47-20 and Gibson County bested Black Oak 36-6.
The following is a roundup of Thursday’s games as reported to The Messenger by area football coaches.
SF 46, Fulton City 20
Cory Pinion topped the rushing chart for the Red Devils (1-1).
Pinion ran for 173 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries and also took in a two-point conversion.
Additionally, Anthony Cox (a one-yard dive) and Skylar Grissom (a 20-yard run) each had one scoring carry for South Fulton.
Defensively, Wade and Dalton Long had six tackles apiece, while Pinion made four stops and Isiah Townsend recorded three takedowns.
FC’s T.J. Ingram accounted for all three of his team’s scores on long runs of 50, 60 and 70 yards.
South Fulton returns to action on Sept. 9 at home against Black Oak.
R’mont 12, Lake Road 8
Jacob Sisk ran for a 10-yard touchdown, while Robert Vasquez made a 41-yard trip to paydirt to put the Mustangs in the victory formation on Thursday.
Cameron Chessor was also highlighted for a 38-yard kickoff return that set up Vasquez’s carry to the endzone.
Alberto Vasquez paced the Ridgemont defense with seven stops, while Dylan Potter and Zach Park both made four tackles.
Garrett Riley led the General offense with 14 carries for 87 yards, while Blake Berner made the team’s lone trip to the endzone.
Riley followed Berner’s three-yard touchdown carry with the two-point conversion.
Brandon Yeager made a team-high seven tackles for LR, while Dalton Hayes was in on five stops as was Mitchell Montgomery.
Seth Clouse and Peyton Cooley both totaled four takedowns for the Generals (0-2).
Lake Road hosts Hillcrest next Thursday.
Hillcrest 47, Fulton Co. 20
Cain Aaron was on target as the Cougar quarterback.
Aaron finished Thur-sday’s game 3-for-3 for 165 yards and three touchdowns.
Aaron also totaled 48 rushing yards.
Austin Harris caught two of those TD tosses — on an 80-yarder and the other a 40-yard reception.
Jonathan Dobson hauled in the other aerial score for Hillcrest.
On the ground, Bryce Warner ran for a total of 112 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, Warner had eight stops, while Harris returned an interception for a touchdown.
Dylan Porch totaled seven tackles for Hillcrest (1-1), while Andrew Fowler made four stops and Garrett Northam had three takedowns.
The Cougars play at Lake Road next Thursday.
GC 36, Black Oak 6
Eagle quarterback Dalton Campbell was 14-for-21 for 121 yards and one touchdown, but it was not enough against GC.
Zac Jones was the recipient of the touchdown pass, bringing down a 16-yard aerial.
Black Oak’s Lane Barker (seven catches for 55 yards) was Campbell’s favorite target.
Blake Jones ran for a team-best 30 yards for BO, while Campbell rushed for 24 and Baker ran for 11 yards.
Defensively, Jake Osb-orne had seven stops, while Campbell made six tackles.
Both Jonah Pittman and Dylan Riddle accounted for four takedowns.
The Eagles host Fulton County next Thursday in Hornbeak.
