A jury rendered its verdict at 1:45 p.m. today (Friday) in the murder trial of Rolie "Lee" Edmaiston Jr., 35, of Union City.
The jury found him guilty of a lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide on the first count of the indictment and guilty of aggravated assault on the second count of the indictment against him.
Edmaiston had been indicted on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the October 2009 death of David Cranford of South Fulton, who sustained severe head injuries following an altercation that escalated into a fight at the Pop A Top Bar on East Cheatham Street in Union City.
Following closing arguments this morning, the jury went into deliberation at 11 a.m. The verdict came 2 hours and 45 minutes later, a time period which included a break of about 45 minutes for lunch.
Judge Lee Moore of Dyer County set sentencing for Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. in Circuit Court, contingent upon whether there will be any conflict with Obion County Circuit Judge Bill Acree’s courtroom schedule. Moore has presided over the proceedings in place of Acree, who recused himself due to knowing some of the family of the parties involved.
Edmaiston’s bond was revoked.
