KNOXVILLE (AP) — The Culinary Institute at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville has added the world’s hottest pepper to its kitchen garden.
Signs in the garden will warn people not to eat the raw pepper called bhut jolokia, a Thai pepper. Unless properly prepared, the pepper is so hot it can cause severe reactions.
The “Five Alarm Garden” also contains jalapenos, habanero and other types of peppers that are used by students in their dishes.
The garden, outside the UT Visitors Center, also produces figs, carrots, blueberries, thyme, curly parsley and other ingredients used by the student chefs.
