Dresden Duplicate Bridge Club had a wonderful time on Wednesday afternoon. There were five and a half tables of players filled anxious to play bridge. For the next three hours, each player made a concerted effort to play the game well.
At the food table, there was crisp chicken livers, brought by Lois Harbour of Union City. There was also pimento cheese and pickles, brick of jalapeno cheese, sweet chocolate marshmallow cookies, slices of watermelon, party mix, coffee and cold drinks.
Winners of this game were N/S 1st-Roberta Meyer and Gene Fulks of Paris, 2nd-Carolyn Rogers and Ruthie Jenkins of Paris, and 3rd-Lois Harbour of Union City and Minnie Bess Williams of Paris. Winners in the E/W position were 1st-Freddye Oliver of Union City and Toni Pritchett, 2nd-Carol Ehlers and Jackie Hohman, both of Paris, 3rd-Sarah Pentecost and Tom Beard, both of Dresden.
I had a phone call last week from a reader of this column. It seems like Bobby Peeler of Martin wanted the bridge club to know that, “If you need a ‘taster’ for your club’s refreshments, I would be glad to offer my services”.
He also said he needed a recipe for the Tea Cookies we have from time to time. He said his mother used to make them and would sometime drizzle an orange or chocolate glaze on them.
So Peeler, here is your recipe brought to me from Dot Beach of South Fulton. (Incidentally, she and her husband Ray are getting ready to have their 70th wedding anniversary) She is the one who makes these delicious cookies.
2 C. sugar
2 sticks butter
3-1/2 C. flour
1 tsp soda
2 tsp. vanilla
Mix all ingredients, roll out or drop on ungreased cookie sheet and bake seven or eight minutes at 350 degrees. Never bake over 9 minutes. Do not brown.
