Four people were injured in a one-vehicle crash Saturday night on U.S. 45 West near the intersection with State Route 21 near Rives.
The accident occurred about 8:40 p.m., according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol accident report made available Thursday afternoon through the Tennessee Department of Safety.
Whitney Grissom, 23, of Union City was southbound on U.S. 45 West in a 2007 Toyota Corolla when she apparently passed a vehicle in a no-passing zone and the vehicle’s left side tire exited the left side of the roadway. She apparently overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the roadway, exit the west roadway edge and overturn once, landing on its roof.
Ms. Grissom was transported by ground ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City. Her three passengers were also injured. They included Dewitt Pierce, 25, of Union City, who was transported by air ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital; and Robert Meely, 31, and Kylene Gorney, 31, both of Union City, who were both transported by ground ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
No one was ejected from the vehicle, according to a report from THP Trooper Joe Terry, the investigating officer.
The driver was charged with improper passing and due care, financial responsibility and seat belt violations.
