Weakley County AARP Chapter #3392 met on July 21 in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church in Martin. Eleven members and guest speaker, Mrs. Teresa Wainscott, attended. Hostesses were Mrs. Jerry Seamans and Mrs. Martha Lamb.
Chapter President Gladys Simmons called the meeting to order and read an article titled “Personality” with some good advice.
Second Vice President Woodrow Collier gave the legislative report. He spoke about the recession.
He introduced Mrs. Wainscott, a first grade teacher at Dresden Elementary School, who told interesting experiences during her 20 plus years of teaching school. She talked about some of the things the young children have to learn in school. We enjoyed her presentation very much. After the meeting, she joined us for lunch as our guest at the Ole West Steakhouse in Martin.
The next AARP Chapter meeting will be Aug. 18 at 9:30 a.m. for refreshments. Mrs. Gladys Simmons and Mrs. Dorothy Kennedy volunteered to be the hostesses. Representative Mark Maddox is the scheduled speaker. Everyone is invited to attend our AARP Chapter meetings.
On Aug. 19, there will be an AARP workshop in Paris.
