The Hunter Hynds Unit of United Methodist Women met in July at Stanley’s Chapel United Methodist Church with nine members present.
President Chris Cheatham welcomed everyone and members noted prayer concerns, with Mrs. Cheatham offering the prayer. The Purpose was recited in unison and the “Response” moment was read, featuring an article about Hawthorn Hill Ministries, a shelter providing women a safe haven on a first-come, first-served basis. Mrs. Cheatham chose “The Knots Prayer” as the devotional.
Sandra McTurner presented the prayer calendar, read a selection from Amos 9:5-15 and prayed for the people, places and needs that were noted.
Dyersburg District president Beth Adams of Dresden was the guest speaker.
She reviewed the “Charter for Racial Justice” and expounded upon the topic on “Imitating Christ’s Humility.”
Mrs. Adams encouraged the membership to regard others as better than themselves and to commit to following Jesus in word and deed.
Scriptures used included Philippians 2:3, read by Mrs. Adams; I Peter 3:8-11, read by Linda Winstead; Isaiah 56:1-2, read by Roberta Peacock; Zechariah 8:16-17, read by Rosemary Coleman; Micah 6:8, read by Becky Barnes; and Matthew 5:9, read by Mrs. Cheatham.
Mrs. Adams closed the program with a Password game using words taken from the charter.
