The water facility was constructed out of a heavy machinery tire with the water being supplied from an adjacent pond. The pond was fenced to exclude cattle to improve and protect water quality.
In addition, farm animals will be less prone to diseases associated with having direct access to the water source.
Yeargin Farms installed the water trough and fencing systems with assistance through USDA’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program. Landowners interested in applying conservation work to address resource concerns on their farm can call the local Natural Resources Conservation Service office at 364-5430 or stop by the USDA Service Center at 196 Hunt St. in Dresden for assistance.
Landowners can also go online to www.tn.nrcs.usda.gov and learn about the various USDA farm programs offered by NRCS.
