Vernon Herbert Bennett, 80, of Union City died Aug. 17, 2010, at the Obion County Nursing Home near Union City.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Terrace Hill Cemetery in Troy, with Dr. Vann Kissell officiating.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call at White & Mahon Funeral Home in Troy from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday.
The family requests that memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Obion County, son of the late John E. and Myrtle (Langley) Bennett. He was a retired security guard with Murray Guard Service in Jackson, where he was employed for several years. He had also been a firefighter for the Union City Fire Department.
He was a Baptist and a member of Jones-Walker Post 4862 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters and his son-in-law, Melanie and Bill Norwood of Troy and Lori Miller of Union City; three grandchildren and the spouses of two of them, Joseph and Ravea Norwood and Amanda and Kasey Robbins, all of Troy, and Tyler Miller of Union City; two sisters, Ruth King and Marie Morton, both of Troy; his brother and sister-in-law, Sydney and Virginia Bennett of Newbern; another sister-in-law, Peggy Bennett of Trimble; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Bennett, Jack Bennett and Benny Bennett.
