Several piano students of Barbara Young recently performed in a summer piano recital at South Fulton Baptist Church.
Those who participated and delighted their audience with the musical repertoire were Elizabeth Lattus, Natalie Carol Allen, Ryanna Kessel, Emma Bruner, Hallie Carter, Hailey Slaughter, Breann Rudoph and Sheridan Daniels.
Students played selections from Beethoven, Mozart, Dvorak, Ivanovici, Brahms, Chopin, Joplin and many more. Following their memorized presentations, the students’ featured selections were from James Bastien’s Native American collections. Songs included “Buffalo Hunt” by Natalie Allen, “Dance for the Buffalo” by Elizabeth Lattus, “My Teepee” by Hailey Slaughter, “Beautiful Baskets” by Hallie Carter, “Spirits Everywhere” by Emma Bruner, “Swift Horses” by Ryanne Kessel and “Indian Children” by Breann Rudolph. A brief explanation of each piece was given by Mrs. Young between selections.
Having graduated from high school this spring, Sheridan Daniels was presented in her senior recital. For this segment of the program, Miss Daniels performed “Crush” by David Archuleta, “Tennessee, From Pearl Harbor” by Hans Zimmer and “My Heart Will Go On” by James Horner, from the movie “Titanic.”
Receiving five-year recognition during the awards portion of the program were Hailey Slaughter, Emma Bruner, Breann Rudolph and Sheridan Daniels. Other awards were presented, followed by a reception for the students and their families and friends in the fellowship hall, where participants enjoyed chocolate or vanilla “piano” cakes, courtesy of Amy Young Allen of Cadiz, Ky., and chips and limeade punch.
