A statue honoring a soldier killed in Iraq has been stolen from its location at Dustin Laird Drive and Hawks Road in Martin.
Billy Laird told police Monday afternoon that the statue — a commemorative statue to honor his son, the late Dustin Laird — was missing, according to a Martin Police Department report.
Police had noticed Saturday morning that the statue was missing but could not make contact with Laird due to his being out of town at the time.
Laird told police he last saw the statue intact Thursday. It is valued at $550, police reported.
The statue has been vandalized on two occasions in the past.
