Police officer fired over texted photo Posted: Wednesday, August 18, 2010 8:02 pm By: AP JACKSON (AP) — A rookie police officer in Tennessee has been fired after he texted what officials described as an inappropriate photo to a female officer. Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist told the Jackson Sun that Cory Franklin, who was hired in November, was fired Aug. 9. Franklin sent Gist a letter notifying him of an appeal. In the letter, Franklin admitted to sending the photo but said it was a mistake. Franklin said he was trying to text the photo to a female relative, not the other officer. Gist said it wasn’t who received the photo that was a violation, but the photo itself. Jackson police officers are placed on a 24-month probation period when they are hired. ——— Information from: The Jackson Sun, http://www.jacksonsun.com Published in The Messenger 8.18.10 |
