Lake Road came out on top in the first Obion County School System middle school softball game of the season on Monday.
The Lady Generals, under new head coach and former South Fulton All-Stater Maddie Carrington, defeated Ridgemont and new skipper Jeremy Bugg 8-3.
Hannah Cavness had two hits for the Lady Generals, while Madison Gargus drove in a trio for the victors.
Ridgemont’s Macy Muirhead, Landry Web-ster and Keaton Cooper each had one safety.
Lake Road’s Paige Russell claimed the mound victory, striking out eight. Ridgemont’s Macey Beeler absorbed the mound defeat.
LR returns to action on Thursday evening at 7 on the Obion Central field against Hillcrest. The Lady Mustangs play next on Aug. 17 in a doubleheader at Dyer.

Tornado season passes
now on sale at school

Season tickets for Union City’s upcoming high school football season are now on sale.
Reserve seating for all Tornado home varsity and jayvee games can be had for a $40 price.
The reigning Class A state champions will open the season with three straight road games, but has home contests against Obion Central, Trinity Christian Academy, Greenfield, Halls and South Fulton.

OC-SF golf outing
a casualty of heat

Obion Central’s first prep golf match of the season — at Fulton County Club vs. South Fulton — became a casualty of the recent widespread heat Monday afternoon.
The heat index was about the 104-degree limit designated by the TSSAA’s Heat Policy when the match was scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., according OCCHS coach Donnie Walton.
The match will be made up on Sept. 2, according to SF golf coach Leah McFarland.
OC will try again to begin its 2010 on Thursday when it hosts Union City and Trenton at Wynridge Greens at Troy.
SFMS grid jamboree
scheduled for Saturday

The annual South Fulton Middle School football jamboree is scheduled for Saturday.
Action is set to get under way at 6 p.m. with Hillcrest against Gleason.
Ridgemont is to battle Trenton at 6:45, while Black Oak gets Fulton City at 7:30.
The 8:15 contest will feature Lake Road and Fulton County, while the host Red Devils close out the evening at 9 against Greenfield.
Tickets for the middle school jamboree are $3.

MMS football player
suffers cardiac arrest

Martin Middle School  seventh-grade football player Trey Parks suffered cardiac arrest, a concussion, a bruised lung and a broken thumb after a collision at a football jamboree at Calloway County High School in Murray.
Parks is recovering at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
