Union City police have recovered a trailer of meat apparently stolen last month from Arkansas.
Police responded about 7:20 a.m. Friday to a tip about a stolen semi trailer on the property of Express Shop 56 at 2031 West Reelfoot Ave., according to a Union City Police Department report.
The tip indicated the truck was allegedly loaded with meat and had been stolen from Marion, Ark.
A Union City police officer located the truck backed up to the woods line on the northeast parking lot and noticed the back lock on the door was broken. The officer reported the smell around it was “almost unbearable.”
Authorities confirmed the trailer was stolen and a representative with LTI Trucking was trying to make arrangements for the trailer and the rotten meat on board, according to the report.
Marion police told Union City police the trailer was stolen July 12 and the total value of the theft was $76,000 — including $46,000 for the trailer and $30,000 for its load of hams.
