Now in its 2nd year, the Soybean Idol event brings together area talent as part of the Soybean Festival.
Soybean Idol is a singing competition where local talents compete to win the coveted title of Soybean Idol. David Belote, co-member of the planning committee, believes there will be a larger turnout for auditions this year.
“We had such a successful first year,” said Belote, “We are looking forward to what this year’s competition has in store.”
The preliminary auditions for Idol will begin Saturday, Aug. 7. from 5-8 p.m. at Brandy’s Restaurant in Martin. Auditions will continue every Saturday in August from 10 a.m.-2 pm. in Virginia Weldon Park. Judges will select the top 10 performers from each audition.
Semi-finals will be held on Sept. 4-5 in the University of Tennessee at Martin’s Watkins Auditorium. The top 10 finalists will compete live on the main stage in downtown Martin on Tuesday, Sept. 7 where the Soybean Idol winner will be determined.
The runner-up will receive $250. The Soybean Idol winner will receive $1,000 and the chance to perform live on the main stage during the Soybean Festival that Saturday, Sept. 11 as an opener for famous country singer John Michael Montgomery.
