July started off wonderful with a celebration for America’s birthday. We had a big Fourth of July cookout for the residents, their families and staff.
Rowena McIntyre, activity assistant was the host and cook. She cooked baked chicken, homemade potato salad, baked beans and strawberry dessert.
She did a fantastic job, and everyone had a full stomach when they left.
There was also another celebration for David and Dorothy Damron. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. There was a big party for them and cake was served.
Our monthly cover card winners were Sylvia Young, Vivian Hubbard, Margaret Plunk and Ruby Peacock.
Yahtzee winners were Vera Puckett, Margaret Plunk, Rub Peacock and Barbra Baker.
During each activity, funny money is given to be spent at the country store. There, the residents can buy drinks, chips and candy.
We celebrated some national events like Ice Cream Cone Day, Ice Cream Sundays, Fruit Day and S’mores Day.
We also made sugar cookies during monthly cooking class.
Wine and cheese was also a big hit this month. We tasted a variety of wines and ate different types of cheese.
Make-up day was a treat for the women. Sandra Winston, Doris Maassen, Elizabeth Flowers, Margaret Plunk, Patricia Duncan and Barbra Baker enjoyed getting all dolled up.
It was a full house for popcorn and a movie. We watched Miracle Worker and Parent Trap.
The monthly auction was exciting. Barbra Baker and Lizzie Williams spent all their money on a bag of chips.
We sure hope they were good! We had a lot of goodies that were donated by Nancy Sherrod and Lisa Fowler.
Special thanks to our volunteers: Nancy Sherrod, C.J. Teal, First Baptist Church of Martin, Greenfield Church of Christ, Bethel Church of Christ, Garner Church of Christ, Restored Joy and the Martingales.
Thanks to each an every one who dedicates their time.
The staff and residents are truly blessed to have such wonderful volunteers.
