Abraham Lincoln used this room as his Cabinet Room. In the Cabinet Room, he signed the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, which freed southern slaves. Today, this room includes the ornate mahogany bed once used in the state guest chamber. Much of the other furniture in this room came from the Lincoln era in the White House.
News of a President – President Ulysses S. Grant always wanted some musical knowledge, but he was known to say, “I only know two tunes. One is ‘Yankee Doodle’ and the other isn’t.” wcp 8-3-10
