The 2010-11 Westview High School cheerleading squad kicked off their summer by hosting its annual golf tournament as a fund-raiser. The tournament brings in funds to help counter expenses incurred while competing regionally and nationally.
The tournament had two flights, designated the Red Flight and the Black Flight. Coming out on top in the Red Flight was the team of Jimmie Bryant, Ben Green, Del Johnson and Blake Allen. The winning foursome in the Black Flight included Blane Cultra, Emmet Jones, Steve Cokley and Corey Morrow.
The list of golfers winning prizes individual prizes was long. Taking home a reward in the Closest to the Pin competition were Jimmy Collins, Victor Castro, Bill Lowry, Travis Reaves, Bill Shore, Thomas Bizzle, Aaron Cooper, Jerry Morris and Rick Bell. Leading the way in the Longest Drive competition were Aaron Cooper and Laura Taylor. The Shortest Drive of the day belonged to James Johnson. Up on the greens, the Putting Contest was won by Patty Fuller and Wendell Cates.
In addition, gift bags and door prizes were handed out to competitors.
With the school year set to begin in just a few days, the Westview cheerleaders are already working hard in an effort to represent Martin and the surrounding areas and bring home another national title.
