With the kickoff for the 2010 football season less than a month away, Weakley County high school football teams are gearing up for the campaign by scheduling preseason scrimmages and committing to play in jamborees.
The Greenfield Yellowjackets will be the first to face off against live competition when they host the Middleton Tigers on Friday evening at 6. The Jackets, under head coach Jason Rodehaver, will also travel to Dyer to take on the Gibson County Pioneers at 7 on Tuesday, Aug. 3 before wrapping up their preseason with an appearance in the annual Ken-Tenn Jamboree to be held at Fulton County High School on Aug. 13.
The Westview Chargers will be the next to buckle the chinstrap and take on an opponent when they host Jackson Central Merry this Saturday morning at Skyhawk Stadium. Action is slated to start at 9:30.
Don Coady’s Chargers will have a week to fine tune and improve before hosting Chester County on their practice field on Saturday, Aug. 7. An exact starting time has yet to be determined. Westview will trek to Tiptonville to tangle with the Lake County Falcons on Tuesday, Aug. 10. Coady anticipates a starting time of approximately 3:45 that afternoon. The final warm-up for WHS will be an appearance in the Huntingdon jamboree on Aug. 13.
Dresden head coach Scott Hewett has a full schedule for his Lions next week. Dresden will visit Jackson Central Merry on Wednesday, Aug. 4 with a start time of 5 p.m. Two days later on Friday, Aug. 6, the Lions visit Union City with a start time of 5 p.m.The Lions will close the preseason with an appearance in the Ken-Tenn Jamboree on Aug. 13.
Gleason head coach Noah Lampkins is still seeking a scrimmage partner, but has scheduled his Bulldogs to appear in a pair of jamborees. The Bulldogs will also trek to Hickman to participate in the Ken-Tenn Jamboree. Since Gleason is not active in Week 0, Lampkins will lead the Bulldogs when they participate in the Lexington jamboree on Aug. 20.
