Poll of Tennessee voters shows economy top issue Posted: Wednesday, July 28, 2010 8:23 am By: AP MEMPHIS (AP) — A poll conducted for the Tennessee Newspaper Network shows the economy far outstrips other issues as voters’ top concern in the state primary elections. The survey of 625 registered voters across the state last week by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research shows 54 percent of respondents said the economy and jobs are their top concern. Government spending, taxes and the state budget languished in second place with 22 percent saying it was their top issue. All others — including health care, immigration and others — were in single digits. The margin of polling error is plus or minus four percentage points. Mason-Dixon managing director Brad Coker said the election is about pocketbook issues. The Newspaper Network includes the state’s largest newspapers. WBIR-TV of Knoxville also participated in the poll. Published in The Messenger 7.27.10 |
