NASHVILLE (AP) — A scholar at Middle Tennessee State University says the state is creating a national model for planning and commemorating the Civil War Sesquicentennial.
Dr. Carroll Van West, director of MTSU Center for Historic Preservation and Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, said the state is offering ways to share how the war impacted families, farms and towns.
The state’s commemoration begins Nov. 12-13 in Nashville with Gov. Phil Bredesen opening the event at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
Activities will include historical discussions, stories and reenactments in addition to music by the Fisk Jubilee Singers and a special appearance by country music singer Trace Adkins.
