The Messenger has learned of the death of Billy Joe Watson, 77, of Brandon, Miss., brother of Carolyn Garrison of Troy and a former resident of this area. He died July 12, 2010, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Miss.
Services were noon July 14 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, with interment following in New Brandon Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 10, 1932, in Troy, son of the late Robert and Erma Watson. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-72 and, after retiring, worked for the Federal Aviation Administration. He was the flight chief at Jackson International Airport in Mississippi until his retirement in April 1994. He enjoyed golf.
Survivors also include his wife of 58 years, Rachel (Baldridge) Watson; his daughter and son-in-law, Belinda Gail and Rick Campbell of Houston, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. R. Michael and Laurie Watson of Brandon; five grandchildren, Preston Campbell and Rachel Campbell, both of Magnolia, Texas, and Eric Watson, Austin Watson and Joseph Watson, all of Brandon; another sister and two brothers-in-law, Imogene and Ralph Wallace of Canton, Mich., and Harold Garrison of Troy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Watson and Edward Watson.
