The Tennessee Department of Safety now offers a 60,000-square-foot full service station to Obion County residents.
The West Reelfoot Avenue location is about three times the size of the previous temporary location, which was on First Street in Union City, according to assistant director of Driver Services Linda Come.
Officials showcased the new facility during an open house Thursday. (See related photo, Page 2.)
Ms. Come said the facility is a shared facility with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and was one of seven new stations across the state built in an effort to ensure that every Tennessean is within 30 miles of a Driver Services Center.
Customers now enjoy a nicer waiting area, better parking and minimum wait for road tests. Reinstatement of driver privileges is also now available at the Union City location. In the past, customers would be required to drive to Memphis or Nashville for such services.
The facility welcomes walk-ins for all services, though they do offer road test appointments for convenience. They also have self-serve kiosks for credit and debit cards.
The center is located at 1604B West Reelfoot Ave. and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Many services can also be accessed online at www.tn.gov/safety.
