John Salmon of the Ore Springs community has announced his candidacy for re-election to the Weakley County Commission in District 1.
Salmon received his education at Grove High School, Bethel College and Murray State University. He has been married to Kay (Radford) Salmon for 45 years. “Miss Kay” has been secretary at Dresden Elementary School for 32 years.
Salmon and his wife have three children, Tracy, Gina and Andy and six grandchildren. Salmon retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. after 30 years of service and has been a realtor with Century 21 Overton Real Estate since 2000. Salmon owns a small cattle farm. Salmon and his wife are active members of Dresden First United Methodist Church.
As a county commissioner, Salmon serves on several boards and committees on the Weakley County Commission and in the community. Included in these are: Chairman of the Personnel/Legislative Committee, member of the public Safety and Rules Committee, Vice-Chairman of the 911 Board and Chairman of the Weakley County Health and Safety Standards Committee.
He is also a member of the Advisory Council for Adult and Continuing Education, a member of the Steering Committee for the 27th Judicial District Drug Court and a member of the Weakley County Arts and Humanities Board.
Salmon is a board member and former President of the Tennessee County Commission Association and a graduate of the WestStar Leadership Program.
Salmon said he considers his appointment to the Weakley County Ethics Committee to be a great honor for him.
“He has been privileged to serve the citizens of District 1 as their County Commissioner, and would very much appreciate their vote and influence in the Aug. 5 General Election. If elected, I will continue to serve in a fair, conservative manner to the best of his ability,” Salmon said.
