Hello everyone, we have had a lot of fun this summer. We are planning on having more fun in the upcoming months, plus take some cool trips. We are working on these all of the time.
Trina took a group back to Arnold’s Beauty School for hair cuts, manicures, and pedicures. Our ladies were beautiful and sparkled when they came back. This is always a fun day. We will be going again every month, so don’t forget to watch for the dates for this fun day.
I had a speaking engagement for the Civitan Club on July 22. This is a great group of people that are always trying to do good things for good people. I spoke about the Senior Center and got to answer a lot of questions about the different activities and help we offer everyone.
Trina and I got to attend an Elder Abuse Seminar at Union City on June 24.  NWTDD did a very nice and informative job on training our Directors and staff. We always appreciate the knowledge and learning experience we get from Northwest Tenn. Development District.
For our potluck last month, Kenny Edwards and Chief Moore took time off from their busy day to come and cook for our seniors. We want to tell them how much we appreciate what they did for us and what they do for the community on a day to day basic. We want to give them a great big Thank You for making our day a little brighter.
The center was also privileged to have Mr. Wendall Verdell and Ms. Gail Muzzal for singing for our seniors on this day.  These folks are truly talented and caring people and we wish them the best.  Again, a huge Thank You goes out to them.
Our group took a trip to Ethridge Tn., to the Amish Village. They watched the folks there, seeing how, and what they accomplish. The Amish maintain a daily life working and living without electricity. This was a very good trip. Our folks enjoyed this a lot, plus we now have friends in Ethridge, Tennessee. We hope to see them again real soon.
We have several from our center which will be traveling to the State Senior Olympics from July 23. until July 29..  If any of them were to win at the state level, then they could advance to the National level which will be held in Texas this year. We want to wish them good luck in every sport which they will participate in.
Now, we still have room for our trip to Memphis and Tunica. This is a bus trip for three days and two nights for $169. This price includes two nights lodging, four meals, and admission to Graceland. Also, included in this price will be admission to the Tunica Museum.
You don’t have to be a person which attends a senior center to go. You are invited from all over the county. For information on the trip, contact Trina (Program Coordinator) here at the center.
We are joining together with Dresden and Sharon Centers in Rook tournaments. We will be going to play at Dresden on Aug. 2, Sharon – Aug. 9, and here at the Martin Center on Aug. 16, the rules are posted at the center so come check this out and plan on a good time at each center. Remember all seniors are invited to play.
On Aug. 5, Quality Hospice will host a blood pressure event here. This will start at 11 a.m. We are going to the Diamond Jax game on Aug. 18 for the 7:05 p.m. game. Please come and sign up for this.
Tennessee Homecare will be here on Aug. 19, for a Heat Stroke Presentation. We are very fortunate to have such great partners with our city and county to work with the health of our folks.
Weldon Library will host a computer class the week of Aug, 23 through Aug. 27. We only have eight spots to fill, so get with us real soon to sign up.
Before long, summer will be a memory and fall will be peeking in through the colored leaves. We don’t want you to forget our special events, but remember the daily and ongoing activities we have here. Seniors are invited to join us on any given week day from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Shuffleboard is played three times a week at 9 a.m. Air Hockey and Ping Pong are here to help keep us up and active. We are some fortunate as well as most other centers to have these things to offer to our seniors for free.
The crafts are usually on the board for at least twice a month. Fun things are happening with Dominoes and Bingo twice a week. We always have a large group of quilters. If you would like to learn quilting, and then get in touch with us, we will help. The exercise room is open daily with different equipment and always a good place to work out. Bring a buddy and make it a buddy thing.
Please be looking for information for the AARP meetings going on in our community. These meetings are for everyone who is seniors. They have such useful information to help all of our seniors. These meetings are usually announced in the paper so be checking out the announcement section. This is a great opportunity for many of you with questions on what the AARP can do for you.
I did forget to mention, we will have a representive from Miracle Ear (today) Thursday, July 22. He will only have spots for 15 tests. This will begin at 9 a.m.
If you have questions or concerns, please come by the center or call us at 587-3900. Until next time, please be careful and have a great week. We truly enjoy being here in the community to serve you and want you to be a part of the Senior Center.
