Tennessee CPA society awards scholarships to local residents

The Educational & Memorial Foundation of the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA) recently awarded scholarships to four West Tennessee area residents for the 2010-11 academic year.
The recipients are: Freed-Hardeman University student Ansley E. Goodman of Selmer; University of Tennessee-Chattanooga student Issac H. Poore of Kenton; and University of Tennessee-Martin students Sara A. Mitchell and Joseph B. Travis of Martin.
Sara A. Mitchell also received the TSCPA West Tennessee Chapter Scholarship Award, which is given to the top accounting student in the West Tennessee Chapter area as determined by the TSCPA Scholarship Awards Committee. Mitchell will be given a plaque in addition to the scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements.
A total of $120,000 in scholarships was awarded to students attending colleges or universities throughout Tennessee by TSCPA this year. The 119 recipients were chosen from 133 applicants.
In order to qualify for a TSCPA scholarship, candidates must complete introductory courses in accounting and/or be students majoring in accounting. Scholarship recipients were selected on the basis of academic achievement, professor recommendation, leadership skills, financial need and previous receipt of a TSCPA scholarship.
