“High Unemployment, Low Expectations ?!?!”
Hello once again! After a break, I am ready to hammer on the tough issues of the day.
The subject this week is definitely one that I can sink my well-experienced teeth into.
Why do I say ‘well-experienced?’ It is because it’s something that I have endured many times for extended periods.
Last week, the majority of new media buzz was not about oil spills, Mel Gibson, or a drunken, crying Ms. Lohan.
But rather, it was about the big, cancerous ‘U’ word called ‘unemployment.’
According to all of the media outlets, about the time that you read this, they will be voting or have voted on creating an extension for unemployment benefits till November or not.
This plan would make provision for the estimated 10 percent of America’s workforce laid off or out looking for jobs.
I thought this was supposed to be the glorious and majestic “Recovery Summer.”
What’s next? “Windfall Autumn?” Or perhaps, “Cash Cow Winter?” To tell you the truth, I much rather see “NoBama November.”
Not to sound like the consummate pessimist, but the way things are going in this country it would seem that America will become like massively unemployed Greece within 2 to 10 years.
That is of course, without actual lasting “hope” and “change” that we truly need, which is seemingly nowhere to be found in our current administration.
To go off on a rant of factual information, since our unemployment rates jumped more than 10 percent and holding, and during the 85 days, 16 hours, and 25 minutes that it took to stop the gushing of oil into the Gulf of Mexico (fingers crossed it will be over), I must ask you, how many rounds of Golf did Obama play?
How many expensive plates of delicacies did the Obama’s feast upon? How many vacation-like trips did they make?
How many parties, galas, fundraisers and dances have the Obama’s attended?
I will not even attempt to answer this because some readers would immediately say that my numbers were skewed, if not exaggerated, even though I would be right.
To be truthful, many of our past Presidents on both sides of the aisle have, at times, been frivolous and reckless with ‘executive privilege.’
But, NEVER has there been an American President that has saturated themselves with such perks in a time of widespread crisis and such blatantly high unemployment, until now.
I thought it was supposed to be “We the people” that choose our electorate to be subject unto the people’s wishes.
Not the electorate that says “I’m gonna do, what I WANT TO DO!” especially in a climate of factory closings and vast unemployment lines.
Maybe I was wrong.
In closing, about a month ago, Republican Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch made waves by suggesting that the unemployed should undergo drug testing before they receive benefits.
This, of course, would be way too costly to maintain.
But, with that being mentioned, I believe there should be testing of another kind in America – ego and haughtiness testing upon entry to the White House!
