Freddie Lee Connell, 71, of Ridgely died July 11, 2010, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. He was the brother of Christine Blair McCurdy of Elbridge.
Services were set for 2 p.m. today at Curry’s Ridgely Chapel in Ridgely, with burial following in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely.
Glen Burse was to officiate and pallbearers were to be Harold England, Benny Long, Ronnie Hays, Monty Mooney, Alex Hays and Ben Hays. Honorary pallbearers were to be Harvey Henderson, Doris Henderson, Ronald Capps and Jack Foster.
Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern was in charge of arrangements.
He was born March 19, 1939, in Chic, son of the late Clyde and Maude (Ennis) Connell. He was a 1958 graduate of the former Tiptonville High School and was a professional guitar player who had cut several records in the 1960s and ’70s. He had also performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service and also a retired business owner.
Survivors also include his brother, Jesse Connell of Tiptonville.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Connell.
