It’s July, so in Troy that means it’s time for Troy Community Involvement Days.
Troy Community Club members have spent months planning the 32nd annual event set for Friday and Saturday and are ready to entertain.
Friday’s events begin with beauty pageants for girls in grades 7-12 and for married women at 5. Larry Fry and the Live Wire Band will perform at 7.
Saturday will kick off with games for the young and the young at heart. A Rook tournament will get under way at 8:30 a.m. in the senior building, while games for children start at 9 at City Park on the square.
Youth ages 4-10 can pick up a coloring sheet at the Troy Community Club clubhouse, located next door to Troy Hardware, in order to enter a coloring contest at 9:30. At the same time, registration begins for the basketball shootout contest at Trojan Park. It will begin at 10.
Pets will then take over the park for a pet show at 11. Registration is at 10:30.
Drawings will be held at noon before Greater Vision Ministries in Troy provides entertainment at 12:15 p.m.
Larry Mink will have a magic show for all to enjoy at 3.
More beauty pageants will be held at 4. They are for girls from birth to sixth-grade and boys from birth to 4-years-old.
A Pie in the Eye auction will be held at 6 and Nash-Vegas Country Band will perform at 7.
There will be plenty of things to do, including cake walks, item vendors, food vendors, drawings for cash and prizes, rides for children, games and a petting zoo.
Businesses and individuals from across the county have donated several nice prizes for the drawings. Donations are still being accepted.
The club is also in need of cake donations for the cake walks. Cakes can be dropped off at the clubhouse on Friday and Saturday.
New this year, the club will be giving away a Mowmentum JS36 John Deere™ push lawn mower. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and may be purchased from a club member during the event.
Entry forms for the beauty pageants are available at Troy City Hall, First Citizens National Bank and First State Bank in Troy and JoAnn’s in Union City. The fee is $20, with an additional $5 charged for the photogenic competition. Categories include for boys: Birth to 11 months, 12-23 months and 2-4 years old. Girls groupings include birth to 11 months, 12-23 months, 2-3 years, 4-5 years, first-second grades, third-fourth grades, fifth-sixth grades, seventh-eighth grades, ninth-12th grades and married women through age 40 and 41 and older.
