Rising junior Jordan Owen is a Rebel with a cause this summer. The University of Tennessee at Martin outfielder is playing for the New Market Rebels in the Valley Baseball League and leads the team in nearly all offensive stats as the all-star break approaches on Saturday.
Owen will represent the New Market (Virginia) Rebels Saturday in the league’s all-star game and represent the Valley League Wednesday night at Bethesda, Md., against the Cal Ripken League All Stars.
Owen lives with UT Martin teammate Trey Karlen in the home of Charlie and Melissa Dodge in New Market, about 20 miles from Harrisonburg and 90 minutes from Washington, D.C.
After 22 games, Owen is sporting a team-high .345 batting average with a team-leading .437 slugging percentage. In fact, Owen leads the team in batting average, games played and started (22-22), runs scored (16), doubles (6), hits (30), at bats (87), slugging percentage and on-base percentage (.410).
Hickman lady golfers
have multiple ties
The Hickman Country Club’s Ladies League play on Thursday ended in a tie.
The team of Liz Roberts, Dino Nerren and Sandra Cobb finished in a dead heat — at 1-under — with the combination of Evelyn Whitten, Kathy Barker and Linda Moore.
Meanwhile, the combination of Jacque Lethcoe, Jackie Russell and Charlotte Hall shared second place (at 1-over) with the team of Carol Potts, Janis Garrigan and Cathy Hall.
Barker was the closest to the pin.
The ladies play every Thursday evening at 5:30.

is cluttered place to be
The team of Wayne Storey, Randy Kincade, Kyle Ross, Colby McBride and Jimmy Sutherland combined to shoot an 10-under-par and win the weekly men’s scramble via a scorecard playoff at Wynridge Greens in Troy Thursday.
Meanwhile, the combination of Bim Barker, Bryan Barker, David Puckett, Matt Russell and Robert Huffstutter got second place with a like score.
The third-place team of Danny Arnold, Dale Batchelor, Rodney Jones, Bobby Chappell, Kenny Adkins and Vinson Thomp-son earned got third place with a 10-under.
Wynridge Greens holds its weekly men’s scramble every Thursday.
