The Press 7.7.10 The Weakley County Office on Aging/Dresden Senior Center is very busy with various activities in the center as well as monthly planned trips. The Dresden Senior Center has something to offer to everyone. We invite you to visit the center and enjoy all the social activities with one another.
We have monthly potlucks on every fourth Wednesday and monthly dances every fourth Thursday night. The Dresden Senior Center provides an education program monthly. There is a large walking area that is used by many people daily. Chair exercise is provided twice a month, and we also offer line exercise dance on Tuesday at 10-11 a.m. We also have a complete exercise gym that benefits seniors from all over the county, and blood pressure checks are available daily.
Rook is a must at the Dresden Center with games Monday through Friday from 12:30-4 p.m. Everyone has a wonderful time playing, and don’t forget we have a snack at 2 p.m. Dominoes are also a big hit on Thursdays from 12:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Everyone is always welcome to join us in all the activities and fun at the Dresden Senior Center.
The Weakley County Office on Aging/Dresden Senior Center are housed under the same roof but are two different programs. The Weakley County Office on Aging offers in-home services to senior citizens in all communities in Weakley County.
We provide Respite Care, which allows a worker to go into a client’s home and relieve the caregiver for 4 hours per week. A respite worker does various work for the client and is a great help to the caregiver as well as the client.
We also provide Homemaking Services. A worker goes into a client’s home and general house cleaning. These services help keep the client in their home environment.
The Weakley County Office on Aging also provides in-home hot meals to clients Monday through Friday to homebound clients.
We are very proud of our in-home services that are provided to our home-bound clients through the Weakley County Office on Aging as well as our services provided to our Senior Center participants on a daily basis.
The Weakley County Office on Aging is licensed through the State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. The Weakley County Office/Dresden Senior Center has a governing advisory board that meets quarterly which is made up of various community leaders.
The Weakley County Office on Aging is very fortunate to have Kenny King, social service coordinator, for the Northwest Tennessee Development District Area Agency on Aging housed in our facility. King does assessment for in-home services.
The Weakley County Office on Aging Director and Assistant Director makes home visits to participants in Weakley County that receive in-home services to make sure they are satisfied and to make sure all their needs are met.
We are very appreciative of the funding from The Northwest Tennessee Development District Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities, Weakley County, Northwest Tennessee Development District Tennessee Arts Grant and United Way of West Tennessee. Without these funds, we could not provide these much needed services.
