Union City police are investigating the theft of nearly $3,000 worth of guns from the home of a Union City man.
Douglas Laster of 1011 Granger Road reported to police on Tuesday that he and his family left their home on Friday going out of town and had asked a neighbor to watch the property and feed the dogs in the back yard.
When he returned home, he found the back door had been broken open. Taken were six guns from a gun cabinet, two from under the bed in a lock box and one beside the bed.
Laster said his stepson found the door broken in on Sunday, but didn’t tell him until he returned.
Neighbors reported seeing a white pickup truck at the home on Sunday evening.
Taken in the theft were a Remington Model 700 7 mm Sendero, valued at $1,000; a Ruger 22 rifle, valued at $300; a Savage HMR 17 rifle, valued at $180; a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun, valued at $300; a CVA 50 caliber muzzleloader, valued at $150; another 50 caliber muzzleloader, valued at $150; a Ruger P97 45 caliber, valued at $450; a Heritage six-inch barrel single action 22 caliber rimfire, valued at $110; and a Remington Magnum 12 gauge shotgun, valued at $350.
