Field Day Held Posted: Tuesday, July 6, 2010 9:13 pm FIELD DAY HELD — Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club participated in the annual national Field Day exercise on June 26 and 27. The purpose of the exercise was to ensure that the amateur radio communications is capable of being used under emergency conditions. Radio operators for the Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club conducted their exercise at 3350 Billy Jolly Road near South Fulton. They constructed temporary antennas, brought their own radios and power generators and had multiple operators available to complete a 24-hour operation. During the 24-hour period they contacted well over 1,000 other radio operators nationwide and overseas. The Reelfoot Amateur Radio Club is ready and able to provide emergency communications when all else fails. RARC members provided emergency communications for the city of Hickman, Ky., during the 2008 ice storm.
