‘Dash’ing through life Posted: Thursday, July 1, 2010 12:09 pm The Messenger, July 1, 2010 By Obion County Ministerial Association In John 10:10, Jesus said “I came that you might have life and life more abundantly.” Then in John 20:30-31, John wrote these words, “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.” (NIV) I read once that the little dash between the date of our birth and the date of our death on the gravestone is what defines a life. Who were they? What was their life like? How did they live out their life? What we do today can define what that dash will represent. As long as there is breath in these lungs and life in this body, we can define the dash. What you have done up to this point cannot be altered or changed. We cannot go back and change the past but we can change today and the decisions of today can change the outcome for tomorrow and the rest of our lives. Today is the beginning of the rest of your life. We can change today and that change can affect tomorrow. In fact, all we have it right now … this moment … this breath. What we do with that can affect our eternity! When I come to the end of my life, I want the dash on my marker to say, “What an abundant life … on earth, … and now for eternity through faith in Jesus Christ.” Life … in His name! Rev.
