A Union City man was issued a citation charging him with a vicious dog offense after police responded to a complaint about a pit bull early Sunday.
Jackie De’Andre Lewis, 31, of 800 South Second St., Union City, was issued the citation for a vicious dog at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had received a complaint of a black pit bull allegedly chasing people in the area of South Second Street about 1:40 a.m. Sunday. The dog, dragging a chain that was about 10 feet long, was located in the yard at 800 South Second St. As an officer got out of his vehicle, the dog started growling and barking, police reported.
An officer attempted to catch the dog with a pole device and the dog allegedly charged at officers, one of whom fired a shot at the animal. The dog apparently was not hit and ran from the area.
Police made contact with the owner about an hour later and issued the citation. The dog had not yet returned home at that time, according to the report.
